After the Show: Dr. Jane Goodall

Dr. Jane Goodall came to Centennial Hall in London to speak about her life and career. Some of my favourite stories included ones about her mother. Jane retold one of her mother's stories about when Jane was one and a half years old. She brought worms in from the garden and put them on the bed to look at. Rather than scold Jane, she explained why worms have to live outside and they took them back.

Jane also loved to read, but they didn't have a lot of money, so most of her books came from the library. However, one of the first books she saved up for was about Tarzan, which became her favourite. When a movie about Tarzan came out in theatres, Jane's mom took her to see it. Jane cried and cried and had to leave. When her mom asked what was the matter, Jane said the actor who played Tarzan was not who she imagined in the book, and to top it all off, he married the wrong Jane!

I didn't think I'd be allowed to take pictures at the event, but it was okay, even though they didn't turn out the best. I hope you like them. You'll notice there were some protesters. They freaked me out because they had masks on. There are also some pictures of empty chairs on stage. I did this intentionally as part of a project I've been working on for some time now called, "Take a Seat". I now have over 60 photos of empty chairs that I have been compiling into a book. More on that later. :)
