Colour Challenge - Cycle 2

January 16, 2021 - Red

  1. A card from Fanshawe Career Services

  2. A cartoon phone from a Crime Stoppers pamphlet

  3. A postcard from "The Pattern Box"

  4. "Mountains" that I did in high school for printmaking in art class

  5. A little boy and a lion from a flyer

  6. A random lady from junk mail-- this was addressed to someone else and ended up in my mailbox

  7. In the top right-hand corner there was a picture of a bird from a Lush catalogue but it fit better upside down so you can't see the bird

January 17, 2021 - Orange

  1. An ad from a London Fringe program

  2. A map from a brochure that my mom gave me-- it has Arva and Birr, ON the map

  3. A chair from a paint "book" that I got from a home show (The Western Fair used to have different events and there would be brochures and free things everywhere)

  4. A bear that I doodled in high school

  5. A small pattern from a comic con program

  6. A Valentine that I got from my friend, Mathew in grade 4 or 5 (you're going to see a lot of Valentines in this project)

January 18, 2021 - Dark Yellow

This wasn't "School Bus Yellow" so I decided to go with dark yellow for this one. On January 17, 2017, I met Wes Barker and this was an ad for his show at Fanshawe. I taped it into my book four years and one day later.

January 19, 2021 - Light Yellow

  1. A postcard from The Pattern Box

  2. Some type of fox

  3. An ad for "Coors Banquet Golden Beer"

  4. A collage (this was in a photo of Dalton Rapattoni and Dalton ended up on my wall)

  5. A singer I don't recognize (this bothered me because it had the number 6 on it and I only used 5 things but I didn't have any more room)

January 20, 2021 - Light Green

  1. Dentist wrapping paper from The Creepy Wrapping Paper Book

  2. A piece of a map of Stratford, ON

  3. A piece of paper from a notepad

  4. Another one

  5. Random people from a religious booklet (my old public school converted into a church and I took some pamphlets)

  6. A wristband

  7. An owl from a paper cup

January 21, 2021 - Dark Green

This was kind of a cheat because there wasn't much green in it, but I liked this quote from Dolly Parton: "If you're feeling low, don't despair. The sun has a sinking spell every night, but it comes back up every morning."

January 22, 2021 - Light Blue

Items 1-4 are junk mail my dad sent home from Florida.

5. A sticker from an old Jack Astor's receipt.

6. Another sticker from Sticker Swaps (I don't think they're around anymore.)

This was not my favourite collage but I think it looks better as a whole with the next one.

January 23, 2021 - Dark Blue

  1. A strip of paper that you can't see

  2. A dog from a birthday card

  3. Taylor Swift

  4. A craft beer from the LCBO catalogue

  5. An ad for custom stampers that came with dad's Florida junk mail

January 24, 2021 - Purple

Back in 2013 or 2014, I thought it would be cool to do round collages. I remember doing this collage on an old CD with white glue and it just peeled off. I didn't do anything with it until recently.

  1. I just added the purple background

  2. A guy from a flyer to fill in the hole

  3. A newspaper headline (Holy F)

  4. A piece of paper that came with a Doc Walker CD

  5. Another one from a Simple Plan CD

  6. Another one from a Bryan Adams CD

  7. Something from a biology textbook

  8. A sticker from The Canadian Cancer Society promoting high school volunteer hours

  9. Another sticker from them (it won't let me group numbers together)

  10. A magazine headline

  11. A to/from sticker that I probably got in nursery school (I still have some)

  12. Canada Dry ad from Reminisce

January 25 - Magenta

This was a Valentine featuring The Mask that I got in grade one or so. It said copyright 1996 on it which means I was five when it was made. I think it still looks pretty good.

January 26, 2021 - Pink

"Be yourself. Embrace your quirks. Being weird is a wonderful thing." -Ed Sheeran explaining how stuttering as a child made him more interesting. This was the day I interviewed Mike Manning so I had a nicer shirt on and didn't have time for a collage.

January 27, 2021 - Black

1-2. Pieces I used for the background. These were from a pamphlet about drinking responsibly. I got this at a "health fair" in 2016 when I started doing the wall. (Go to the bottom of the art show page to see a video.)

3. I used a card about the theatre dept. at Fanshawe for another background piece.

I think you can read the rest here.

January 28, 2021 - White/Free Choice

Adam Longo, where are you?

January 29, 2021 - Grey

In case you didn't know, I was weird as a child/teen/human being. I grew up in the country with not much to do and dial-up internet so I had to make my own pictures instead of Googling things to Photoshop. My sister gave me a green bag (which I still have) and I used that as a background. My scanner program at the time had an "emboss" feature. This was actually probably a year before I had access to Photoshop. I also found a stegosaurus eraser that I bravely put into the scanner (not recommended). I named him Stego-Morris. I don't know if he's still around. I like how I made an effort to print this out AND use crafty scissors.

January 30, 2021 - Brown

1-2. Another random lady from a flyer. This was too wide for my book so I cut her shoulder off (which sounds bad) and used it along the bottom so the background would match. That piece got covered up anyway.

3. Cartoon glasses from an optical department flyer.

4. Part of a Swiss Chalet coupon.

5. A box with the number 29 on it from Lush. (I am 29 for a few more months. Woo.)

6. I printed out the little dog a long time ago. It was supposed to be black, but my ink ran out and I kept it anyway.

This collage carries onto the next page which happens to be in the next cycle, so stay tuned for Thursday.
