Taking It On Home with Genevieve Fisher

Updated: Sep 29, 2023

Today, January 11, 2018, marks a special day in the career of Genevieve Fisher, as the final issue of Our London makes its way into the public. Genevieve was the first and now the last person to grace its cover and that meant a lot to her: “Being on the cover of the first and last edition of Our London is very special for me and also an honour. I will forever and always consider London my home. So, to have a local newspaper support me as much as Our London did was so important for me as an artist. There is nothing better than having your hometowns support. I could always count on Our London to help promote events and other important aspects of my career.”

This experience is just one of many highlights Genevieve has had in the past year. In addition to performing at The Trackside Music Festival in London and Lucknow’s Music in the Fields, Genevieve’s song, “Take It On Home” became her first Top 20 song in Canada, which she also performed at the Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAO) Awards.

“Being up on stage at the CMAO Awards last year in my hometown was a highlight for me. In that moment, singing 'Take It On Home', I realized how far I’ve come, and that my hard work has gained me great success and respect in the industry. To be asked to sing at the CMAO Awards is a great honour and I am so lucky to be a part of the CMAO family!” Fisher explained.

Genevieve was also recognized as 2017’s “fifth most successful Canadian female artist at radio”, which she described as being “extremely surreal” now that she knows her music “is becoming increasingly more popular in Canada”, especially as an independent artist. She credits her “faith, hard work and determination” as the key components to her prosperous career. “I feel like it is all still sinking in, but I couldn’t be more proud of myself and my team for such a successful year!”

Together, Fisher said that she and her team “know exactly what our roles are, what our goals are, and also [ensure] that we are making the best decisions possible in order to be recognized. I have always been a firm believer in staying true to who you are; I know my limits. So even when I do push myself a little harder, I do it to an extent that I’m comfortable with, in hopes that fans will recognize the work that I’m putting in for them!”

Additionally, Genevieve also encouraged anyone else following in her path to stay true to themselves as well: “This industry can be hard on your body, mind and emotions. It takes a lot of hard work and determination-- but I promise it is worth it. If you are passionate about performing, it makes the difficult aspects of the industry seem a little easier to manage. Speak, sing and perform from your heart. That’s something that no one can ever take away from you!”

On top of everything else that she accomplished in 2017, Genevieve got married! As a surprise, her team took the music video for “Take It On Home” and inserted video clips featuring best wishes from Genevieve’s friends in the country music and radio industries. Genevieve and her husband, Brian received messages from Aaron Pritchett, River Town Saints, Kira Isabella, JoJo Mason, Jason McCoy and many more. “I was so surprised and also very emotional (I was a blubbering mess)! I feel so lucky to have some amazing friends in the industry, both artists and industry professionals! We are truly like a big family.”

In order to give back to her new found family, Fisher sent countless bottles of her very own “You Me We” wine as a thank you to radio stations across Canada for playing her new song. (Unfortunately, they are not for sale.) “I love wine” she explained, “and I really wanted to do something nice for all of the radio stations who supported my single! The idea came to me because there’s a line in the song that says ‘cheap wine in a bottle, feelin’ like we won the lotto’. So, I thought, ‘how cool would it be to send radio stations a bottle of wine with the artwork on it?’ It was my way of showing my appreciation with a Genevieve Fisher twist on it!”

Genevieve Fisher will proceed to put her twist on things in 2018 as she continues to pour her heart and soul into her music. “Music has always been a huge part of my life, so being able to show my fans who I am as a person through my music is pretty amazing! …. I am looking forward to releasing new music and upcoming performances. My summer is already booking up, so I can’t wait to get out on the road! I have a lot of exciting things in the works and I can’t wait to share them with my fans!”
